Michael Connelly’s Next Harry Bosch Novel Announced (with Details)

On October 22, Harry Bosch and Renee Ballard are set to return in The Night Fire, a new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michaell Connelly.

For the second time in two years, Michael Connelly is giving fans just what they want. Back in 2017, Connelly released two books, both of which were bestsellers. First up was The Late Show, which introduced readers to LAPD Detective Renee Ballard, who quickly became a genre favorite, especially with Connelly’s base of readers.

Six months after the release of The Late Show, Two Kinds of Truth was published, starring Detective Harry Bosch, and fans immediately began calling him to team up Ballard in the future. Connelly did just that Dark Sacred Night, which came out last October, revealing a dynamic chemistry between his two protagonists not seen in Bosch’s world since much earlier in the series. Fans loved it, and many expressed their desire to see the two detectives work together again . . . which is just what’s going to happen later on this year when The Night Fire hits bookstore shelves.

The Night Fire promo.jpgHarry Bosch and LAPD Detective Renee Ballard come together again on the murder case that obsessed Bosch’s mentor, the man who trained him—new from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly.

Back when Harry Bosch was just a rookie homicide detective, he had an inspiring mentor who taught him to take the work personally and light the fire of relentlessness for every case. Now that mentor, J.J. Thompson, is dead, but after his funeral his widow hands Bosch a murder book that Thompson took with him when he left the LAPD 20 years before — the unsolved killing of a troubled young man in an alley used for drug deals.

Bosch brings the murder book to Renée Ballard and asks her to help him find what about the case lit Thompson’s fire all those years ago. That will be their starting point.

The bond between Bosch and Ballard tightens as they become a formidable investigation team. And they soon arrive at a worrying question: Did Thompson steal the murder book to work the case in retirement, or to make sure it never got solved?
