Michel Connelly to Release A New Jack McEvoy Novel in 2020

Fans of Michael Connelly have every reason to be excited this year, as the veteran New York Times bestseller is slated to put out two books in 2020—with the first one, Fair Warning, hitting bookstores on May 26th.

First, the bad news. Harry Bosch won’t be getting his own book this year, and neither will Renee Ballard, Connelly’s new fan-favorite character who starred in The Late Show (2017), before teaming up with Bosch in both Dark Sacred Night (2018) and The Night Fire (2019). However, Harry will return, portrayed by Titus Welliver, in season six of the hit Amazon-produced show Bosch, which comes out in April.

First up is actually Jack McEvoy, the crime beat reporter who starred in The Poet (1996) and The Scarecrow (2009), while also making cameos in the Bosch book A Darkness More than Night (2001) and, more recently, the Mickey Haller-driven novel, The Brass Verdict (2008). Then, sometime this fall, Connelly will release another Haller book, the details of which we know next to nothing about. It’s possible Bosch pops up there, given the frequent crossover between characters, but there’s been no official word on that front to date.

Instead, all the news has thus far has been about Fair Warning, and while the cover art hasn’t yet been revealed, you can see the plot details below.

Fair Warning Promo Cover.jpgThe hero of The Poet and The Scarecrow is back in the new thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly. Jack McEvoy, the journalist who never backs down, tracks a serial killer who has been operating completely under the radar–until now.

Veteran reporter Jack McEvoy has taken down killers before, but when a woman he had a one-night stand with is murdered in a particularly brutal way, McEvoy realizes he might be facing a criminal mind unlike any he’s ever encountered.
McEvoy investigates—against the warnings of the police and his own editor—and makes a shocking discovery that connects the crime to other mysterious deaths across the country. But his inquiry hits a snag when he himself becomes a suspect.

As he races to clear his name, McEvoy’s findings point to a serial killer working under the radar of law enforcement for years, and using personal data shared by the victims themselves to select and hunt his targets.

Called “the Raymond Chandler of this generation” (Associated Press), Michael Connelly once again delivers an unputdownable thriller that reveals a predator operating from the darkest corners of human nature—and one man courageous and determined enough to stand in his way
