Next year is set to kick off with a bang because Jason Bourne, one of the biggest names the thriller genre has ever produced, will return to bookstores in Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Vendetta on January 14, 2025.
Vendetta will be the sixth novel from New York Times bestselling author Brian Freeman, who first took over Ludlum’s iconic series in 2020 with The Bourne Evolution. Prior to that, it had been Eric Van Lustbader penning Bourne books, beginning with The Bourne Legacy and ending with The Bourne Initiative, and run that started in 2004 and ended in 2017. Of course, it was long before that that Jason Bourne was first introduced to readers. Robert Ludlum actually kicked off his iconic series way back in 1980 with The Bourne Identity, which he followed up by releasing The Bourne Supremacy (1986) and The Bourne Ultimatum (1990). Though the novels were a massive success, it wasn’t until actor Matt Damon stepped into the role for the 2002 blockbuster The Bourne Identity that Jason Bourne truly became a household name.
Since his run started, Freeman has continued to find ways to breathe new life into Ludlum’s series. His fifth franchise entry, Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Shadow, is perhaps his best work to date. That book won’t come out until July 16th, 2024, but you can circle back to read my full review soon. Bottom line, it’s fantastic—and fans are lucky that Freeman is at the helm. As for what’s being teed up to hit stores in 2025, you can check out the full synopsis and see the cover art below.
The Bourne Vendetta by Brian Freeman

A love from Bourne’s past seeks his help when assassins threaten her husband, but only treachery burns hotter than true love in the New York Times bestselling series.

Bourne follows the plot against this man into a deadly web of
conspiracy that puts them all at risk. But the deeper he descends into the violence, the more he believes that Abbey may not know who her husband really is.
