CIA counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp returns for another high-stakes adventure heavy on action and nostalgia as the Don Bentley era officially kicks off following a dominant run by Kyle Mills.

Following the death of Minnesota-based author Vince Flynn (April 6, 1966 – June 19, 2013), bestselling author Kyle Mills (Code Red, 2023) stepped in to continue the legacy set forth by Flynn, writing nine total books in the late author’s #1 New York Times bestselling Mitch Rapp series.

Now, Don Bentley (best known for his Matt Drake books and his work in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan universe) takes the mantle from Mills and immediately makes his presence in the Rappverse felt with Capture Or Kill, the twenty-third book in Flynn’s franchise. Taking place in 2011 and set between two earlier books in the series that were both written by Flynn—Pursuit of Honor (2009) and The Last Man (2012), Flynn’s final published novel—Capture Or Kill goes back in time to reimagine the hunt for Osama bin Laden, with CIA counterterrorist operative Mitch Rapp joining the efforts to find the man responsible for the worst attack on United States soil.

Undercover, Rapp is sent to take a high-priority target on enemy soil. Plans change, though, when Mitch learns of another opportunity, one connected to bin Laden. Vowing to come back and make good on his intended mission, reasoning that his original target is as good as dead already—a simple matter or when not if, liking it to someone with a terminal disease, or a “dead man walking”—Rapp goes off the grid in his pursuit for hard-hitting justice. That means severing coms with the CIA, notably Irene Kennedy and Mike Nash. Unsure of what Rapp plans to do next, Kennedy, the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, leans on Nash, who has worked with Mitch in the field numerous times, to try and guess Rapp’s next move. Whatever Mitch does, they know he’ll need backup, and soon, longtime battle buddy Scott Coleman and his squad of hardened operators—including sniper Charlie “Slick” Wicker—are dispatched to the Mid East to backup Rapp.

It’s all fireworks from there, as Mitch links up with Coleman and his team, once again taking the fight to bad guys in epic and cold-blooded fashion.

With a returning cast of beloved characters and a familiar setting that longtime readers will enjoy, Bentley brings a new voice to the long-running series, all told in a fresh narrative that will leave fans more than a little intrigued to see where Mitch Rapp will go from here.

Caught in a race against time, Rapp must navigate a dangerous and uncertain path to prevent a catastrophic war in the Middle East while ensuring justice is served for the nearly 3,000 victims of 9/11. The stakes have never been higher, and the action has never been more brutal. Expect a bloody, electrifying adventure that reminds readers why American assassin Mitch Rapp is still the most badass character in print today.
