Teaser: Joel C. Rosenberg Already Working on the Follow-Up to The First Hostage!

The First HostageJoel Rosenberg’s new novel, The First Hostage, was one of the best books of 2015. Actually, it just came out a week ago (on December 29, 2015) but already many fans have devoured the book.

The truth is, Rosenberg spoiled readers in 2015 by releasing the first (The Third Target) and second book (The First Hostage) in his new series within the same calendar year. Now the countdown is on while we await the next one…

Details about the next book in Joel’s latest series are still very much unknown, but we do know, at the very least, that there will in fact be a third book!

During an interview with Tony Perkins on the Washington Watch radio program, Rosenberg was asked if he’s working on the next book in the series. here’s how the exchange went:

Tony: “I don’t want to get to far ahead of you here, but is the next one in the works?”

Rosenberg: “Yeah. I’ve actually been spending December mapping out the third one in the series.”

It’s not much, but it’s something!

(You can listen to the entire interview by clicking here. Or if you just want to hear the tidbit about book three, skip to the twenty-minute mark.)

Now, I could really over-analyze this and note that Rosenberg didn’t say that the third book will be last in the series. But at the same time, he didn’t say that it wasn’t, either.

Joel’s first series, The Last Jihad series, was five books long. His second series, beginning with The Twelfth Imam, was only three books. So the question is, will this series be another trilogy, or will New York Times reporter J.B. Collins hang around for longer than just one more book?

Personally, I lean towards hoping this series is longer than only three books. That said, all of Rosenberg’s novels have been spectacular, so I have nothing but trust in him moving forward.

If he decides to wrap this series up, it must be because he’s got another story to tell – and I’ll be excited about that too!
