Author Brad Meltzer To Serve as Commencement Speaker at The University of Michigan Law School 2016 Graduation (with quote from Law School Dean, Mark West)

The University of Michigan Law School, one of the most prestigious law schools in the country, will now have one of the top thriller authors in the world speaking at their graduation in 2016.

Brad Meltzer, 45, obtained a Bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Michigan in 1992, before earning a law degree from Columbia Law School four years later. The author has never been shy about his love for his alma mater, posting pictures of himself at various University of Michigan functions and sporting events on his social media accounts.

While this won’t be Meltzer’s first commencement speech, as he previously spoke at the Penn State Lehigh Valley’s commencement ceremony in 2012, one would think this particular honor will have an even more profound impact on the author considering his love for the school.

I reached out to the University of Michigan Law School and asked them about their decision to have Meltzer speak at their graduation. It was obvious, in their response, that the feelings of respect and excitement are reciprocated.

“It’s an honor to welcome Brad Meltzer to celebrate Senior Day with us,” says Dean Mark D. West, Michigan Law School Dean and Nippon Life Professor of Law. “As a University of Michigan alumnus, lawyer, and best-selling author, Brad’s experiences will be meaningful to the Class of 2016 as they look toward the next chapter in their lives.”

In addition to being the New York Times bestselling author of novels such as The Inner Circle, The Fifth Assassin, and The President’s Shadow, Meltzer is also the host of two hit television shows – Brad Meltzer’s Decoded, and Brad Meltzer’s Lost History. He’s also penned multiple children books as part of his I Am series, teaching kids about historical figures such as Helen Keller, Rosa Parks, Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Amelia Earhart, Martin Luther King Jr and others.

As a Michigan native, and fan of both Meltzer and the University of Michigan, I couldn’t be happier for everyone involved. Meltzer is one of the genuine good guys in the business, and Michigan is, well, they are Michigan. Go Blue!
