Gregg Hurwitz To Release ‘The Rains,’ His First Young Adult Novel, In October

It’s a fact that kids aren’t reading as much today as they used to. In a world where video games and social media apps are just a thumb click away, there’s been a sharp decline in the number of teens who actually pick up a book and sit down to read it.

Several bestselling thriller authors, like James Patterson, David Baldacci, and John Grisham, have all recently waded into the young adult genre by releasing new series targeting the teen audience. Brad Meltzer is another author who has gone this route, though his series of children books are generally designed to reach younger readers.

Personally, I love when the authors that I read and cover, write something that my kids can check out. It gives us just one more thing to talk about and allows for us to share a hobby which, if you have kids, you know how important that can be.

Excitingly, another top thriller author is trying his hand at writing young adult novels. Gregg Hurwitz, author of the 2016 smash hit Orphan X, is set to release The Rains on October 18th.

The Rains is the first novel in a new series for teens, and follows teenage brothers who fight for survival after a mysterious virus turns everyone eighteen and older into terrifying and deadly beings. Hurwitz signed a two-book deal with Tor Teen back in 2015. The second book in the series, Last Chance, is scheduled for publication sometime in the fall of 2017.

If you, like me, can’t wait to purchase this for your kids, you can pre-order The Rains here. For the official plot info and cover art, scroll down.

In the tradition of Rick Yancey’s The 5th Wave, the first YA page-turner from New York Times bestselling author Gregg Hurwitz. In one terrifying night, the peaceful community of Creek’s Cause turns into a war zone. No one under the age of eighteen is safe. Chance Rain and his older brother, Patrick, have already fended off multiple attacks from infected adults by the time they arrive at the school where other young survivors are hiding.

Most of the kids they know have been dragged away by once-trusted adults who are now ferocious, inhuman beings. The parasite that transformed them takes hold after people turn eighteen–and Patrick’s birthday is only a few days away.

Determined to save Patrick’s life and the lives of the remaining kids, the brothers embark on a mission to uncover the truth about the parasites–and what they find is horrifying. Battling an enemy not of this earth, Chance and Patrick become humanity’s only hope for salvation.
