This summer, #1 bestselling author David Baldacci will release One Good Deed, a new thriller set during the World War II-era, which is slated to come out on July 23, 2019.
Baldacci, who remains one of the busiest authors in publishing, will drop his fifth Amos Decker novel, Redemption, on April 16th, and he’s said to have another book coming out this fall. One Good Deed will introduce readers to former WWII soldier Aloysius Archer and follows an interesting trend from the author who, though he already has several—Amos Decker, John Puller, Will Robie, etc.—bestselling franchises to his name, and yet continues to create new protagonists, including last year’s leady lady Atlee Pine, who starred in Long Road to Mercy.
Turning to historical fiction marks a change for Baldacci, whose recent series are all set in the present day—but does follow an overall trend that’s seen several prominent authors try their hand at setting books in the past. Perhaps most notably, Andrew Gross left the mystery scene behind for the historical fiction genre several years back when he released The One Man (2016) while others, meanwhile, such as Lisa Scottoline, are said to be gearing up to release their first attempt as well.

The #1 New York Times bestselling author David Baldacci introduced a new, unforgettable character:
Archer, a straight-talking former World War II Soldier fresh out of prison for a crime he didn’t commit.
It’s 1949. When World War II veteran Aloysius Archer is released from Carderock Prison, he is sent to Poca City on parole. Within a single night, his search for gainful employment—and a stiff drink—leads him to a local bar, where he is hired for what seems like a simple job: collect a debt owed to a powerful local businessman, Hank Pittleman.
Soon Archer finds out that recouping the debt won’t be so easy, and when a murder takes place right under Archer’s nose, police suspicions rise against the ex-convict and Archer realizes that this murder could send him right back to prison . . . if he doesn’t use every skill in his arsenal to track down the real killer himself.
