Dear readers,
When I launched The Real Book Spy back in 2014, I did so because I was (and still am) a huge fan of the thriller genre. Covering these books and the authors who write them has been my passion for the last eight years. So has been connecting with you all, my fellow super fans. And that is why I’m writing this . . .
This year marks and new and exciting time for me. On top of being a Book Spy, my debut thriller, Fields of Fire, comes out on September 6th. Many of you have already pre-ordered, and for that, I am so thankful. You all, voracious readers and thriller enthusiasts, are the reason I wrote this book, and I can’t wait for you all to meet Matthew Redd.
Back to why I’m writing this . . .
On top of launching my career as an author, I’ve also been streaming on Twitch as a way to get to know readers on a more personal level. If you don’t know what that is, fear not, I didn’t either until last year. Essentially, Twitch is a platform where gamers (known as streamers) can play games online while hanging out with people/viewers. The goal is to create and build a community where we can all hang out together. And no, it’s not all about video games (though I play Call of Duty: Warzone) and just watching people play stuff. My chat (or “community”) has been awesome, and I have to say, I genuinely look forward to getting on each night and interacting with everyone. We talk about books, pop culture news, food, and laugh a LOT. It’s a great time.
You can find me on Twitch here (where I have already done and plan to do more exclusive giveaways), but why am I telling you about this?
Well, to kick off Fields of Fire, I’m doing a huge giveaway in order to raise money for a local charity here in Southwest Michigan. One person will win a prize package that includes a signed copy of Fields of Fire, the right to name a character in my next book, a 30-minute Zoom call with me to talk about whatever you want (we can discuss my book, thrillers in general, writing advice, you name it), a signed Fields of Fire poster (like the one you’ll see behind me on Twitch), and signed hardcovers . . . for life.
Yup, every book I ever write, you’ll be one of the first to receive a signed copy, plus one extra—every single year—to give to the person of your choice. That includes Lethal Range, the second book in the Matthew Redd series due out next August.
To recap, one person will win the following:
- A signed hardcover copy of Fields of Fire
- The right to name a character in my next book
- A 30-minute Zoom call with me (to take place sometime later this year)
- A signed Fields of Fire poster
- 2 signed hardcover copies of every book I ever write, starting with next year’s Lethal Range.
How do you enter?
Entering is actually free, but you can also increase your chances of winning several different ways. On September 6th, the day Fields of Fire comes out, I’ll do a live, random drawing on Twitch. More information will be posted on my Twitter account and on my Discord server. To get your name in the drawing, all you have to do is follow my Twitch channel, which you can find here. That’s it. Do that (creating an account is free if you don’t have one), and you’re entered!
As mentioned above, you can also increase your odds of winning by getting your name added to the drawing more times, which is super simple. For every subscription you donate to my Twitch channel, your name will be added to the drawing an additional time. (To clarify, there is no cap on this, since we’re raising money for a local charity. So, if you gift 10 subscriptions, for example, your name will be added 10 more times to the drawing.)
If you have Amazon Prime, then you get one free Twitch subscription per month at no additional cost. All you have to do is link your accounts (this is safe, as Amazon owns Twitch) and you can use that Prime Sub to subscribe to any channel you want. Anyone who uses a Prime Sub to subscribe to my channel will have their name added to the drawing again, further increasing their chances of winning. Just follow the steps listed here.
So there it is. I wanted to raise money for a good cause and, at the same time, offer one reader a super exclusive, fun prize package that’s different than anything anyone else is doing. To hear more about the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, the charity I’ve chosen to donate to, pop into my stream sometime. I’m generally on each night from 8-10 pm ET. You can also watch past broadcasts, and if you want, follow, subscribe, or even gift subscriptions anytime, even if I’m offline.
Good luck!
“You know Ryan Steck as the Real Book Spy. Now, get to know him as the author of Fields of Fire, his debut thriller featuring Marine Raider Matthew Redd in a battle that will leave you speechless and begging for more. Lock and load!” ―Jack Carr, Navy SEAL Sniper and #1 New York Times bestselling author of In the Blood
Waiting to be deployed on a critical mission, elite Marine Raider Matthew Redd stops to help a stranger and wakes up hours later to learn his team was wiped out in an ambush. Unable to remember anything, Redd can’t deny the possibility that he’s somehow responsible for the information leak that led to the massacre. He’s given a deal to avoid a charge of treason, but it means walking away from the Corps and the life he loved.
As he faces his loss, Matty gets a cryptic message from his adoptive father, J. B.: “Trouble’s come knocking. . . . Might need your help.” He points his truck home to rural Montana, only to discover that J. B. is dead and the explanation for his death is far from satisfying. Determined to dig up the truth, Redd uncovers a dark global conspiracy with his hometown at the center and no team at his back―except one he might find among past friends, old enemies, and new allies, if he can figure out who to trust.
